Black and White Pottery

Here are some examples of my Black and White Fine Art Pottery. The shapes and designs are created with dots, wax resist, vertical lines and rings. The white earthenware shows through as I paint three to four layers of cobalt cystal black underglaze on greenware and bisque fire. Then I apply two or three coats of diamond overglaze for the second firing for a glass finish over all the painted designs. The glaze leaves a crystal clear finish.

Rings of Color

Here are three examples of rings. The first one is rings of the rainbow. This collection sold out. Also this rainbow vase was written up in the Kansas City Star newspaper in Missouri. The colors I use merges with black. Black absorbs light energy thus enhancing the color and design of my pottery. The next post I will show you my black and white pottery. It is very strong the way it shows shape and design.

More Table Lamps

More Table Lamps. They are actually Sculptures. A Bird Table Lamp has blue green and purple underglaze. The Dolphin Table Lamp has purple and turquoise with some green underglaze. The sculptures are assembled to pottery thrown vases off the wheel in greenware stage. All is put together to dry very slowly leather hard. Some additional carving is done then completely air dried and the underglazes are applied.

Turquoise, Blue, Violet and Black

Here are shapes with turquoise, blue, violet and black. The designs are completely handthrown on my electric pottery wheel. My pottery wheel is a Classic Robert Brent I found in a garage sale. It was shipped free of charge to a company in Michigan that wanted to study its design and parts. They repaired it and sent it back to me.

Color and Design

Here are examples of color and design of my Fine Art Pottery. I celebrate the southwest with the underglaze colors called tomato red, violet and deep turquoise.
Each color is hand painted with three layers then fired bisque then double overglazed in a second firing. The clay used is called "white earthenware".

Fine Art Pottery

I am a Fine Art Potter. My Fine Art Pottery is hand made and sculpted right off the wheel. I have been throwing pottery for many years. I have a Pottery Jar with a Purchase Award at the Glendale Community College in Arizona on display since 1975. I am an Alumini Artist in a Permanent Art Collection in the Library there. Pottery is a relaxing meditation. When sculpting and throwing pottery there is a sense of spiritual energy that calms the body and the mind. Creating is an enjoyable process. There is a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment that you have designed something very unique and beautiful. More about my life as a Potter in the upcoming blog. Check out my website listed in my profile.
